Extension Cords Legal in the Workplace?

Dear Professor Risk,
One of my employees said that our extension cords are not legal. What are the regulations regarding extension cords?

Answer:
All extension cords must be grounded and may have only one outlet unless it has circuit protection (such as a power strip). Also, only one extension cord is allowed between the outlet and the appliance. Power strips count as extension cords.
